When I logout from Kpanel, the computer freezes solid (every single time). This behavior does not occur with xdm. RedHat 5.2, Kernel 2.2.2, XFree86-3.3.3.1, XFree86-S3-3.3.3.1, glibc6 2.0.7, qt 1.42 I would be happy to answer any other questions that you may have.
