This appears to be a Windows bug. They do make one recommendation, which i'm
not sure if xfreerdp gives such an option, Disable Bitmap Caching. Rebooting my
system did not resolve the black screen issue, but rebooting windows did. Found
this page after; however the newest version of krdc seems to excite this
problem.

Manager and in most cases you'll immediately see the Desktop.
2. If only Task Manager but no Desktop appears try running Explorer from Task
