As far as I recall, this has happened near the first time after my initial
setup of favorites in Application Dashboard. I put some apps in favorites,
arranged them to my preference, but later they were messed up as I describe in
the initial comment. This has clearly happened more than once, on different
computers (with similar setups, though).

Fortunately, for some time since then (surely after I re-arranged the favorites
to my preference) they have been stable.
