Try
- the EGL backend and/or to
- disable blur and contrast effects

On large invocation, latter would significantly stress the IGP (and may fall
over to CPU emulation), though I would not expect 100% CPU load here.

Another wild guess on blaming the driver, add
   /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
containing:

Section "Device"
   Identifier  "Intel Graphics"
   Driver      "intel"
   Option      "AccelMethod"  "uxa"
   Option      "TearFree"    "false"
EndSection


Then restart the X11 server (log out and in, in doubt reboot)
