1) Yes, I couldn't log in on my desktop.  It would hang up trying to start the
session.  I removed the backports ppa.  I will try again later, but I didn't
have time to fight with it.

2) I think you're right.  

$ plasmashell --version
kf5.kiconthemes: "Theme tree: (Breeze)"
plasmashell 5.2.2

In Kubuntu 15.04 it's all a bit confusing.  When I select "About KDE" in an
application it says I am running Platform Version 4.14.6.  In the system
settings, selecting "About KDE" says "Frameworks Version 5.9.0".
