Ok I have fixed this issue, with 14 lines of code.

I fixed it exactly the way that I initially proposed, ie detect if the backend
resets the position in stream when equalizer is enabled or disabled, and seek
back to correct position if required.

It does not involve any code that depends on the backend in any way.
