I thought I did ;-)
Since we already ruled out waiting for the retrace and it's apparently not the
fence, i could only imagine it's waiting to get the context active - but I've
no favorite supposition (or had)

The diver is not supposed to block here, so it could be any kind of (inc.
internal) mutex.
