--- Comment #120 from docduke <temp01@priphy.com> ---
Thanks very much for the insight, Christoph. My report is on the same bug.
When Power Management is disabled in systemsettings, memory growth stops. I
believe that disables "powerdevil." I consider it well-named. I can imagine
it has a very difficult task, since computers may have many different bios
methods of handling power in battery-operated configurations.

I was surprised to learn how many other things were affected by disabling Power
Management. My normal configuration is konsole with 4 tabs and firefox with 4
tabs. I turned Power Managment off, then rebooted my computers. One is an
Athlon 64 - 3400+ in an E-Machine C6207 made in 2005, with a Phoenix Award
BIOS, no version id. The other is an Intel Core-2 VPro in a Dell Optiplex 755,
BIOS Revision A10. When the E-Machine came up, the konsole, firefox and even
the desktop folder view were all missing. When the Dell machine came up, the
desktop folder view was there, but the konsole and firefox were only on the
panel, grayed out. I could not launch them, but I could delete them. Do you
consider this a bug worth reporting?

My objective is to leave Apache running long-term, and have KDE available when
I need to do maintenance or development. Since I am running on vanilla PCs, I
would prefer to just shut down Power Manager, but I don't like losing the
"desktop restore" after the occasional reboot.

My workaround is to run KDE when I am actively doing work, and use init 3 to
kill it when I am not, leaving Apache active.
