From kde-bugs-dist Wed Dec 31 16:16:14 2014 From: Shawn Cook Date: Wed, 31 Dec 2014 16:16:14 +0000 To: kde-bugs-dist Subject: [KScreen] [Bug 342374] Memory Leak in plasma-desktop grows into gigabytes Message-Id: X-MARC-Message: https://marc.info/?l=kde-bugs-dist&m=142004259003931 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=342374 --- Comment #1 from Shawn Cook --- Additional Information: I've repeatedly seen the follow increase plasma-desktop memory size at a rate of 2M per second for hundreds of megabytes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Kopete spinning icon in system tray (always) Bouncing icon by pointer when launching an application (most of the time) ::: Removing the system tray applet does not stop plasma-desktop from leaking, only prevents these 2 sources ::: Using system tray widget instead of applet does not stop the memory leak either -Desktop Folder Widget, moving the mouse over any icons in the folder widget would increase plasma-desktop memory size by roughly .5M to 1M per second until all had be hovered, then after a few seconds it would again begin growing upon hovering. I have been monitoring my system under little to no load and I've found that plasma-desktop will consume ram until it forces swapping and then the swap used will grow until the system freezes. I've also found these entires in the messages log: Dec 18 04:42:18 localhost kernel: [22336.857390] Out of memory: Kill process 2218 (plasma-desktop) score 823 or sacrifice child Dec 18 04:42:18 localhost kernel: [22336.859305] Out of memory: Kill process 2218 (plasma-desktop) score 823 or sacrifice child Dec 18 04:42:18 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2218 (plasma-desktop) score 823 or sacrifice child Dec 18 04:42:19 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2218 (plasma-desktop) score 823 or sacrifice child Dec 18 04:42:18 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2218 (plasma-desktop) score 823 or sacrifice child Dec 18 04:42:19 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2218 (plasma-desktop) score 823 or sacrifice child Dec 18 15:39:00 localhost kernel: [23509.678942] Out of memory: Kill process 2205 (plasma-desktop) score 693 or sacrifice child Dec 18 15:39:00 localhost kernel: [23514.703722] Out of memory: Kill process 2205 (plasma-desktop) score 693 or sacrifice child Dec 18 15:39:30 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2205 (plasma-desktop) score 693 or sacrifice child Dec 18 15:39:30 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2205 (plasma-desktop) score 693 or sacrifice child Dec 19 02:54:12 localhost kernel: [31023.577804] Out of memory: Kill process 2237 (plasma-desktop) score 792 or sacrifice child Dec 19 02:54:41 localhost kernel: [31052.134485] Out of memory: Kill process 2237 (plasma-desktop) score 792 or sacrifice child Dec 19 02:54:42 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2237 (plasma-desktop) score 792 or sacrifice child Dec 19 02:54:42 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2237 (plasma-desktop) score 792 or sacrifice child Dec 19 02:54:42 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2237 (plasma-desktop) score 792 or sacrifice child Dec 19 02:54:42 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2237 (plasma-desktop) score 792 or sacrifice child Dec 20 00:20:00 localhost kernel: [29825.945429] Out of memory: Kill process 2234 (plasma-desktop) score 766 or sacrifice child Dec 20 00:20:00 localhost kernel: [29825.946721] Out of memory: Kill process 2234 (plasma-desktop) score 766 or sacrifice child Dec 20 00:20:01 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2234 (plasma-desktop) score 766 or sacrifice child Dec 20 00:20:01 localhost kernel: Out of memory: Kill process 2234 (plasma-desktop) score 766 or sacrifice child I have not reliably identified any one single trigger and the memory growth is slow unless I'm using the system heavily. I have found though that jut walking away and returning 8 hours later after no use and the plasma-desktop utilization has grown. I've disabled desktop search and it continues. I haven't used other Activities. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
