For the record: Now, scrolling feels slow, since there is some delay that is
caused by always highlighting the visible parts of the view. That should be
improved in future releases.

In my opinion, we should try to introduce a class that splices the document
ranges into chunks of several hundred lines. Then, one could just start a batch
run and over time we'd have full highlighting without blocking ui. If done
correctly, such a batch class could also be reused for search & replace.
