Hi there. I can reproduce this :) This does not happen outside vi-mode, thus
it's a bug in the vi-mode component only. I have KDE SC 4.13.1 and Kate
compiled from the last commit of the master branch. I've added a new keyboard
layout (US with dead keys) to my settings and I've set the Caps lock key to be
my layout switcher shortcut. After this, I can reproduce this bug. My version
of Qt is 4.8.6.

I remember that I could not reproduce this in Kate (frameworks) (frameworks is
not compiling for me right now, so I can't test it now...). Since the code from
Kate (frameworks) and Kate (master) hasn't changed in this regard, my wild
guess is that it has something to do with Qt. But I don't now really :)
