Having desktop search enabled by default (with appropriate security measures
such as encrypting the index or warning the user) is reasonable, since it is
enabled by default at the competitors so users expect it.

IIRC there were similar issues with Windows Vista too (just as with every
desktop search on Linux I've seen, since Beagle). Does someone know if
disabling the desktop search is still a common post-installation procedure for
Windows folks too, or they sorted out the performance problems?
