I tried that now. (KDE 4.11.0)
There is absolutely no output from the patch in .xsession-errors (I did enable
"7020 kded" and "kded4" in kdebugdialog, that should be enough I hope?) in the
case of an endless "updating system configuration".
The settings do get saved, but I have to run "kbuildsycoca4" manually for them
to take effect.
I want to add that I have this problem for years now, even in KDE3.
But sometimes it does even work...
