Thanks for the quick suggestions. I've turned off "File to activity linking
plugin" as per https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=306338. That didn't help.

I've also turned off Nepomuk for now, just to be sure that's not involved.
I've tried the Konsole fix for Ubuntu, reference in bug:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=306338

Removing "/usr/share/kde4/services/kded/phononserver.desktop" didn't help.

Interesting that when I "exit" the shell in Konsole, it hangs forever.
Semaphore? I'm wondering about some network resource, but I can't imagine
which one. Dbus? Don't know how to debug these ideas.

I don't have any NFS mounts. I do mount other disks in the system:
% df -k
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sdb3 665241344 237684840 393757492 38% /
none 4 0 4 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
udev 2014220 4 2014216 1% /dev
tmpfs 404864 1136 403728 1% /run
none 5120 0 5120 0% /run/lock

none 102400 16 102384 1% /run/user
/dev/sdb1 288239836 175300200 98291172 65% /mnt/desktop
/dev/sda3 237068308 202115948 34952360 86% /mnt/win/os
/dev/sda5 235914236 196267140 39647096 84% /mnt/win/backpart

Thanks again. I'll keep adding information as I gather it.
