Hmm, I wonder if "capture" is just a cosmetic thing and it really is a playback
control and it's the "mute" ticky box. Not looked at the source for ages so
hard to say without poking.

At first glance it looks like it could be some mishandling of the mute
functionality at some level. At least it's the capture volume that's doing this
and not the output volume :s
