Define "flicker" - if i do that in the session, all clients get mapped
(required) and the shadows/translucency disappear and then the WM comes up and
finally the compositor takes over painting the scene.

There is so much going on that i don't see any special extra flicker at all ;-)

The only thing that could actually be done was a curtain on --replace (dump
current screen as static pixmap, hide everything behind that curtain and then
fade it away when the compositor is up) - but i would not consider that worth
it.
