There are several reports of this crash at on the Arch Linux forums [1].

I've noticed that it does not occur if I run 
kquitapp plasma-desktop ; plasma-desktop

I've attached a backtrace produced from a clean user account and after
compiling the qt, kdelibs and kdebase-workspace packages with debug enabled as
well as a screenlog of running plasma-desktop and lauching desktop settings
after running kquitapp plasma-desktop incase this contains any useful
information.
