That's related to 32bit pixmap allocation - where the nvidia css driver is
incredibly slow (it uses a pixmap cache and if that cache is flooded, things
get really ugly. Unfortunately sth. in the kapplication constructor causes such
flooding :-(

Rather don't bother:
a) i expect xrender matrix transformations it to be slow anyway
b) i can check by (more or less) "pacman -R nvidia; pacman -S nouveau", but
last time i tried (some weeks ago) xrender transformations were slow and
calling OpenGL buggy would be an insult on bugs ;-)

The only reason was to get yourself a faster (?) system again.
Also have a look on the GPU temperature. The nouveau driver caused +10 °C here
(just as eg. full blown darkshadows, quake engine mod) - so if you've
insufficient cooling this might quite heat up your box.
