I tried KTextEditor (Kate), QLineEdit/QTextEdit, and KHTML, and all of them
were smart enough to use the 50/50 rule for selection, i.e. which character is
included is decided on which half of the character you started/end your
selection.

If you still see this problem, please reopen or report the to the application
where you see it.
