I'm also experimenting this flickering - sometimes (not always) it starts and
remains periodic - I can't detect a possible cause/padron of when the
flickering begins

I have a nvidia geforce go 7300, using the proprietary driver version 180 (most
recent one), running kde 4.2.2 on kubuntu jaunty jackalope upgraded from 8.04.2

This bug "bugs" alot
