I have exactly the same problem as the initial bug report creator.

Funnily enough I can drag and drop widgets to the desktop, but when I use the
"add widget" button, Plasma freezes. The button works fine though when adding
widgets to a panel.

I'm using the latest KDE 4.2 with Arch Linux.
