As I've also many crash with this I read the suggested trick about
.kde/share/config/kdeglobals

Yes if you want to crash dolphin or other you should activate in qtconfig the
effect tab interface Enable effects (all enabled)

inside .kde/share/config/kdeglobals
I've check also the [kde] section
[KDE]
AutoSelectDelay=-1
ChangeCursor=true
DoubleClickInterval=400
EffectAnimateCombo=false
EffectAnimateMenu=false
EffectAnimateTooltip=false
EffectFadeMenu=false
EffectFadeTooltip=false
EffectNoTooltip=false
EffectsEnabled=true
InsertTearOffHandle=0
ShowDeleteCommand=true
ShowIconsOnPushButtons=true
SingleClick=false
StartDragDist=4
StartDragTime=500
VisualActivate=1
WheelScrollLines=1
colorScheme=bf2_suse.kcsrc
contrast=2

with this no trouble anymore ...
If you play with the effect it will crash again

system : opensuse 11.1 32bits PAE
Qt: 4.4.3
KDE: 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 69.2"
kde4-config: 1.0

Hope this give you a way to find and resolv it.
