Summary: applications crash when typing first character - problem
disappears if I switch keyboard layout but reappears
                    later
           Product: kde
           Version: 3.5
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: crash
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs@kde.org
        ReportedBy: vincent.fortin@gmail.com

Version: (using KDE 3.5.10)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When I start a new application (this happened with kate, mozilla, thunderbird,
and others), sometimes it will crash when I first use the keyboard. The
application does not crash if I simply use the mouse. When I say it crashes, I
mean it completely disappears, no dialog box appears to allow me to generate a
backtrace. Once this happens, all applications will crash upon startup when I
first use the keyboard, and this will continue until I change the keyboard
layout. I use the us and ca-fr layouts. Once I switch layout (crashes happen
both with us and ca-fr layouts), everything is fine for a while. Crashes can
happen every few minutes or every few days. I have no idea what is causing
this. I have KDE 3.5.10 running on kubuntu 8.04.1 on a Dell Latitude D820
portable computer. I cannot be sure that this is a KDE problem of course.
