Thanks for your help. I'll keep trying Google using "ess allegro 1998" and
Linux.
I have a 20,000 mp3 collection that doesn't get any playtime in the current
Linux distros. It's as if a single bit is randomly turned on or off about
every three reboots. Once in a great while, both channels work. Even when
they do, however, Amarok, or some process it depends on, overheats the
processor, causing both fans to run the entire time it's open. If I ever get
Xine's settings figured out, I may need a smaller media player.

Amarok. It could be xine or the drivers for that particular audio hardware which \
isn&#39;t well supported under Linux.<br> <br>Somethings you could check:<br>&nbsp;1. \
