Confirmed. I get the same issue when building from 3.5.9 tarballs (RHEL4 machine).

The configure test indeed fails but the build goes on nevertheless and fails a while \

Attaching config.log showing the issue. I think the configure plumbing should disable \
some builds when net-snmp libs cannot be found.
