A possible way of achieving this would be adding an X to the lower left portion of the icon. I'm sure there are other ways of indicating that the folder is empty. One benefit of this proposal would be the elimination of the need to verify that a folder is empty before deleting it (I always double check that). Another benefit would be for those who check "incoming" folders. I have 6 "incoming" folders. It would be nice if I could just look at the top level folder and see which "incoming" folders have files and which do not. I'm sure that there are numerous other benefits as well.
