This is by design. Until 5.0.3, MySQL limited the size of varchar/varbinary fields to a length \
of 255 characters. That length is now 65k, but many many many people are still running older \
MySQL (plus it'd be hard to code in forward-backward compatibility.
I'm going to mark this as LATER so that we can be sure to make this longer in 2.0. We can make \
sure to depend on MySQL > 5.0.3 (or later if some other issue comes up).
