------- Additional Comments From rody xs4all nl 2007-07-18 04:55 -------
This is not a mandrake specific issue, it's a kde-specific issue. The 5 points \
mentioned by Brice Hunt are the most important reasons why i use xscreensaver in \
several cases where kscreensaver either fails completely (not starting the \
screensaver at all) or fails after some time running a few apps. This is a long \
standing issue. I've been reading about this since i was using kde 3.11 (an attic \
version which had a few nice improvements compared to the version that came with \
rh8). Also, Richard Neill's point is still an issue, but i'm not going into that now.

After this many years i've come to the point that i'm willing to pay for someone that \
provides me with a little tool that will replace the kscreensaver page in kcontrol \
with the one xscreensaver provides altogether.

Maybe i should start setting up a contest, or something like that. Right now it's \
pretty obvious that any change is unlikely to come from kde-dev's. As Brice Hunt \
mentioned, the gnome dev's used to have the same ostrich policy, but at least they \
overcame their pride. I also know the author of xscreensaver would be happy to work \
on a solution for kde too. It just seems he hits the same wall as he did with gnome \
dev's in the past.

Now, i would have done this myself if it were possible to do with the knowledge of \
bash-scripting and simple pascal programming that i have. If someone could tell me \
where to start and on what lines of code to focus, i would still be willing to give \
it a try myself, but i don't expect to be able to complete the task myself entirely. \
Anyone who cares enough is therefore invited to mail me, hopefully we can work \
something out.

Rody
