I mean "useless" like the buttons that are supposed to be there are not.  Yes, the buttons work in this mode, but it is a huge waste of space and is not able to be used to it's full potention.

I don't know if this is related at all, but it looks like Konsole had a problem with its toolbar and the Mac menu (back when it had a toolbar).  See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47276.  But then again, this may be totally unrelated.
