In the "boot" menu, graphical theme,  change your boot mode to text. 
Occasionally it will still go to the blue screen but the system will 
carry on to a shut down. Also if changing user and a blue screen appears 
you can alt - ctrl -bkspc and the login screen appears. No freezing
