"Currently we use the file manager (the KFM part) for FTP"
1. It looks just like every other mode. This is a good thing.
2. Most users don't know AND don't care what's handling ftp on their PC. Myself \
included. What I like is it works as expected. Enter ftp.url.good.com and I can \
click away as if it were in file manager mode. Perfect!
"Our current setup lets you go to the web in the "file manager" and manage files in \
the "web browser." It may not comply with KDE's standard, it may not be "right" in a \
technical sense, but it's very familiar from the user's perspective and it will work \
for most users.
"users seem to think that web browsing and local browsing are different things"
Not really. They don't really know and *really* don't care. They want to apply what \
they already know. If they aren't sure, they just quit. In this case, click on \
folder opens it is what they know. They don't want to learn new behavior, see new \
user interfaces they don't know.
We all know there are some bad GUI practices built up over the years, but enforcing \
"good" behavior (gnome?) and adding more buttons when so few are actually used anyway \
won't help very many users.
