1. In the minipager applet klick: Pager Options->Desktop Wallpapers
2. Right click the desktop background: Configure Desktop->Background and change the picture

Now every desktop shown in the minipager updates properly on mouseclick, except the desktop '1' (the most left  one). Changing the background again does nothing, it simply stays grey, the other backgrounds update on mouseclick. 

Increasing the number of desktops (e.g. 4 to 6) leads to 4 grey backgrounds (no update on mouseclick) and 2 backgrounds, which update properly.
