The same problem with my ASUS A6R-B002. My OS is Kubuntu 5.10 Breeze. "Asus ACPI: Erorr reading LCD status" with frequency 10Hz in /var/log/syslog and others logs. Every couple minut window with "Display changed: LCD off/on".

i change permissions of file: "chmod -rw /proc/acpi/asus/lcd"
and modified "/usr/share/services/kded/kmilod.desktop" file
