Related issues to consider that came up when we were brainstorming on IRC:
Links to things on removable media?
Links to things on network mounts?

When I used to put things on kicker, I used to have links to a couple of local smb \
shares Right now, I have remote:/ set up to point to a couple of them (I also have \
some not-always-available ssh connections, and an ftp site that limits logins with \
the username I have, so I guess that's not 'always available' either.)

It often takes more than 720s to get served at a cafe around here, on a sunny summer \
day, it would be unfortunate to find a lot of carefully set up links to frequently \
used (but buried deep in an insanely dumb hierarchy) server folders have disappeared \
because the waitress is too slow and I can't reach the lan links from external \
locations.
