just to make myself a bit clearer: this func spec needs a someone to step up and \
write it. this is usually best done in consultation with the consumers (users) of the \
software. following the open source "way" it would best be done by gathering the \
feedback and needs on the matter from the userbase BY the userbase (e.g. what b.k.o \
here tries to facilitate)... it would be great if the reporter of the bug, along with \
some of his fellow user base members, would step up to help draft such a func spec \
that the devels can then work from. this is where the first efforts should probably \
come from, IMHO.

the most effective way to do this would be to lodge specific wishlists and then \
triage them into a nice, prioritized listing of needs.
