Having looked at the glibc code it looks like it should alwayws be freed. Depending \
on how glibc is built and possibly on whether you libpthread linked in, it will \
either allocate one globally which is freed by the fini function in dlerror.c that \
runs when libc is unloaded, or it will allocate one per thread which is freed by the \
free_key_mem destructor function when the thread exits.
