xscreensaver-demo is rather fun to play with. Yes, it's probably overkill if you just \
want to save your screen from burn-in, but it is very entertaining!

Can I suggest that a reasonably good solution might be to patch \
kdebase/kcontrol/screensaver/scrnsave.cpp to do just this:

if (`/sbin/pidof xscreensaver`){
   print "You are already running the xscreensaver program; and you probably
   don't want to run the kde screensaver simultaneously. You can configure or
   stop the xcreensaver program by running <LINK>xscreensaver-demo</LINK>.
   [xscreensaver was probably started automatically in a startup script: you
   may want to look in $HOME/.kde/Autostart/ ]"
}else{
   show the normal screensaver configuration in kcontrol.
}

This will solve the most serious problem (when kscreensaver tries to "fight" with an \
already running xscreensaver), and should cause no confusion for other users. Sorry \
that the above "patch" is only in pseudocode.

Thanks - Richard
