Summary: Mount icon does not work with USB card readers
           Product: kdesktop
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Debian testing
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: faure@kde.org
        ReportedBy: hadmut@danisch.de

Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.4)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

Hi,

the mount icon for the desktop can not handle USB compact flash
readers under linux. The problem is that the kernel does not
recognize when a card is plugged in. The reader is the block device,
not the card. If you plug in a card, the kernel needs to be triggered
to reread the partition table (and generate partition devices in devfs).
I usually do this by calling sfdisk -l twice for the device.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to achieve this with a kde
desktop hard disk entry. Therefore I'd suggest to allow to
give a command to be run before mounting in the icon configuration
(and for completeness after mounting and before and after unounting).
Please pass the device path as a parameter or environment.

regards
Hadmut
