I'm experiencing the same problem using KOffice 1.3 RC1! Whenever I select Aspell in \
the KOffice settings it seems to never get applied. Even if I choose ASpell, close \
the settings window (Of course with a click on "OK") and then instantly reopen it \
ISpell is again selected instead of ASpell!

This bug is especially annoying because always when I start KWord it complains about \
not having been able to start ISpell and that I should check whether it is in my \
PATH. Well, of course, it is not, because I have ASpell installed on my computer and \
not ISpell, but KWord always forgets my spell checking settings.
