It is a known bug and fixed in HEAD. 
 
For branch there is a workaround: 
 
Workaround (kde3.1.2) requires root access:  
 In ~/.kde/share/config/kmixrc make sure the option Visible=false  
 After that:  
 su root  
 chmod a-w kmixrc
