It would be great if these popups were editable from an XML (or other) template. 
 
Tooltips could also show idle times. 
 
Just a completly random idea here, but if the tooltips were customisable, it might be 
possible to show a picture of the person you're talking to on hover over.  In protocols 
that support it, such as the latest MSN,  this picture could be received automagically, 
else a picture could be defined on a per contact basis.  Perhaps I'm the only person 
that likes the idea of having pictures with contacts though.  That could ust be me.
