Summary: (Phoebe) Long startup, crash when moving contact, two
menu entries
Product: kopete
Version: unspecified
Platform: RedHat RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: crash
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: kopete-devel@kde.org
ReportedBy: benjaminvanderjagt@adelphia.net
Version: 0.6.1a (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
Sorry, I know KDE bugzilla somewhat says not to report a bug when using beta \
software. I think this is a good instance to enter bug info, tho.
0.6.1 does not compile from .src.rpm nor from tarball. The .src.rpm complains that \
Qt is not 3.1 or higher, but it is 3.1.1 in my case. The tarball complains that it \
can't find libraries in the folder that I am building from. I get the same problem \
with CVS. I've always had the tar and CVS building problems with RH 8.0 and 8.1. \
Source RPMs used to compile just fine in RH8.0.
After installing the precompiled .i386.rpm (totally fresh), I got two menu entries \
for kopete, neither with an icon. Starting kopete 0.6.1 always takes around 30 \
seconds (using 100% cpu) before it starts logging in. It doesn't matter how much \
stuff I have running or how fast my computer is; it's always the same length of time. \
If I recompile the Source RPM (as I did in 8.0) for athlon processor, it takes around \
1/3 the amount of time.
My ICQ contact list was split into three parts, for whatever reason. I tried to move \
a contact to the top, and it crashed. It did that every time I tried.
I tried uninstalling with rpm -e, but it says that kopete was not installed.
I searched around all my computers here and found an old 0.5.1 i386 RPM and installed \
it over top of my current 0.6.1 install. It works perfectly. In fact, the first \
time, my AIM logged in automatically!
This report is mostly a wishlist. I've noticed that, although Kopete is \
exceptionally well made, Red Hat never really likes it. My wish is that you would \
continue to supply old versions of kopete. I searched online and couldn't find any. \
I only have the i386 RPM, and I'd like to have the Source RPM.
