Compiler:          gcc 3.2

Right click a desktop icon
Select "Properties"
Click on the icon button like you are going to change the icon
Either select a new icon or hit cancel
Click on the icon button again

From this point on the icon selection popup disappears almost immediately every time its clicked

Closing the "Properties" window and starting over fixes the problem, until you try it all again...
