Summary: UTF-8 encoding should be detected automatically
           Product: kate
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Debian testing
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kwrite-devel@kde.org
        ReportedBy: tom@lasbo.de

Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Whenever I open a file that contains UTF-8 encoded characters, all the non-ASCII \
characters are displayed wrong because Kate assumes that the text is encoded in \
ISO-8859-15.

So it would be great if Kate could automatically detect if a text is encoded in UTF-8 \
or ISO-8859-1.

I don't know how the Windows guys solved it but in MS-Notepad it works.
