Subject: Re: [despammed] A formula editor misses the point

As I start to think about it it really may not be too hard to get some of it.
From memory Mathcad (circa V5) stores the page as text with the special chars
that it uses during editing. Probably the basic concept is very easy: store
it in (interpretable) computer style, but display and edit it in the
typesetter.

I'm no great shakes on C++ and have enough free projects to keep me busy, so I
can't offer to help with coding.

However I use licensed copies of matlab on windows and linux, and mathcad on
windows. I would be happy to help with concepts, file info and sample files,
and interfacing to those packages.

As an aside KScilab and/or a spreadsheet that uses Scilab as a computational
engine, would be a formidable package.
Scilab is one of the very few only open source packages I can think of that
has real depth and is comprehensive.
Sadly most of the open source software we see has very little depth to it.
(This isn't to take anything from developers, people just don't appreciate
how extensive "professional"software is. Matlabs documentation alone is 3
shelf metres of dense, well written books!)

Cheers

Simon
