Package: kpresenter
Version: recent CVS (30/01/2002) (using KDE 2.9.1 CVS/CVSup/Snapshot)
Severity: normal
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc 2.95.3 (SuSE 7.2)
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: compiled with objprelink

When I import a greek powerpoint document in KPresenter, although the layouts etc. \
are imported very well, I see strange characters instead of greek characters in all \
texts.

IMO the reason for this is that Powerpoint stores its presentations in a \
locale-specific encoding (namely ISO-8859-7 for greek) and the import filter \
misinterprets ISO-8859-7 as ISO-8859-1.
Under iso-8859-x encodings this doen't really make a difference, but obviously in \
UTF-8 (which is the destination encoding for the filter, if I am not wrong) greek \
characters are totally different than latin characters.

Perhaps the filter could somehow read the encoding from the .ppt file and use it when \
converting to utf-8?

Dimitris Kamenopoulos
