to follow up on my original post, there may be a
coreallation to other problems I am seeing with my KDE
desktop

a )I can't use the konqueror web broswer, it freezes
on launch

b) kde will not shut down properly when I log out, it
just hangs so I have to kill the XServer with
ctrl+alt+backspace

again all this info may help you find out what's going wrongs?
