Package: kicker
Version: KDE 2.2.1
Severity: normal
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc 2.95.2
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: SuSE 7.1 i386, updated to 31.10.01

I have the kicker panel vertically on the right side of the screen on my notebook. \
Kicker panel is longer than my screen height. Instead of the applet which shows the \
running programs (=prg-applet ?) I only see a grey field. If I adjust the kicker \
panel with the move buttons (to see the item which were beyond the screen height), \
buttons for part of the running programs appear in the prg-applet (not all); it looks \
like the redraw was not fully done. If I move another applet (ie clock) along the \
panel, it does not "click" into the separating spacers, it can be positioned right on \
top of another applet. Precisly at that moment I can see that teh process "kdeinit: \
kicker" starts using 99% CPU; I cannot manipulate the panel anymore. If I log out/in \
then, I get an operatable panel again, but "kdeinit:kicker" keeps using 99% CPU. If I \
repeat that manipulation, I have 2 "kdeinit:kicker" processes, each using 49% CPU...I \
actually have to go into "init 3" to get rid of the "kdeinit:kicker" processes. I \
believe this has to do with an over-long panel which uses more screen space than \
actually is available. I cannot reproduce this symptome when I use a horizontally \
oriented kicker panel, but this fits onto the screen. Tests with setting the style of \
the horizontal panel to "big" so some applet would be "out of the screen" caused the \
same wild running "kdeinit:kicker" process(es). I could repeat this on 2 systems:
1) labtop Toshiba 4200, 500MHz Celeron, 192MB RAM, SuSE 7.1 upgraded, KDE 2.2.1, \
Kernel 2.4.13, XFree 4.1.0 (Savage IX/MV graphics) 2) desktop no-name, 1200MHz \
Athlon, 512MB RAM, SuSE 7.1 upgraded, KDE 2.2.1, Kernel 2.4.12, XFree 4.1.0, prop \
NVidia graphics driver
