Package: kwin Version: KDE 2.2.1 Severity: normal Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: gcc 2.95.3 OS: Linux OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified I've decided to set up a separate directory from my main KDE install so that I can keep core KDE stuff apart from other KDE apps. I've got it set up now so $KDEDIR points to /opt/kde22, my main KDE dir, and $KDEDIRS is /opt/kde22:/opt/kdeapps, with /opt/kdeapps being where I put apps I compile later on. This works fine, except that updates to /opt/kdeapps don't seem to get noticed immediately. For example, if I install a program without specifying a prefix of /opt/kdeapps (so it goes to /opt/kde22), kicker immediately picks up the application and lists it. If I put it in /opt/kdeapps, kicker doesn't notice it till KDE is restarted. The same for ioslaves. They work right after installation into /opt/kde22, but I have to restart KDE if I put them in /opt/kdeapps. I'm not precisely sure what package this should be reported to, I hope this is acceptable.
