Please install the mp3 codecs, those are never shipped automatically with 
Linux distributions due to patent reasons of the format.

FWIW: your distribution should prompt you to install the codecs on the first
time you try to play an mp3 track, if that is not the case, report it to your
distribution.

FWIW2: this is not an amarok bug anyway, as amarok doesn't play sound, it let's
phonon do it, so you likely miss the gstreamer plugins for mp3
